I'm out of practice with my art, and not that prolific in recent years. I keep saying I'll take more time for it, but... well. Life.
So, when I do draw, I usually do two or three versions of a piece. Version one, is always the original line art. I don't know how I gravitated towards line art, aside from the fact that the first real drawing classes I ever sat in were for mechanical drawings - Highly detailed line art. To this day, I still draw with a mechanical pencil. I may, or may not ink the lines of the original line art.
The second version is the color version. I might do two versions of the same, quickly in the case of art markers, and not so quickly in the case of digital media. I was never fast with Photoshop, or any of it's cousins, so it takes a while for me to crank out one of those, since I don't have time like I used to.
Right now, I'm loving Copic markers, though I'm still learning how to use them, because they are much faster and more forgiving of cheap paper or reproductions. When I can use Copics like a boss, I'll start to eliminate the step of coloring on photocopies, but until then, that's what I do.
